Drill Care

All drills come with a spiral cleaning bur for removing dust from the bur opening.  Use this once a week or once a month or when you notice that the bur no longer inserts all the way into the handpiece.  None of the drills require sterilization of the handpiece or lubrication of the internal ball bearings.  They use sealed bearings that are factory lubricated.  We provide rubber dust caps that slide onto the bur shafts and help keep dust out of the bur entrance of the handpiece.  These caps can remain on the bur shafts during sterilization.  Do a spin test every time you insert a new bur.  Just a quick turning of the bur with your fingers will inform you if there is friction.  If you feel that there is more resistance to turning, you can call us or send the handpiece for service.  Another indication that service is required is when the the handpiece becomes unusually warm.  The drills have an overload protection but handpieces can still become very warm.   When in doubt simply call us.  Our phone number (403-271-6805) is on the back of the drill.

Micro-Air drill: Clean the unit and hose/cable with mild or disinfecting soap when needed.  Do not use aggressive disinfectants such as Cidex.  Inspect the dust bag while it is attached to the dust compartment lid.  The high density paper bag should not be torn and should fit all the way on the metal tube on the dust compartment lid.  If you ever notice a lot of white dust all around the drill, inspect the dust bag integrity.   You may have to vacuum out the insides of the machine in that case.  Dust bags should be emptied or replaced when they are 3/4 full.  The carbon brushes on the vacuum motors can be replaced in most cases.
Ortho-Spray drill: Clean the unit with mild soap as needed with a damp, not wet, cloth.

Once a month use the backflush adapter to push any dust in the spray nozzle back out the other end.  This takes 2 minutes.  To remove the water tubing from the front connector of the unit, firmly press the center ring in the connector with your thumbnail while pulling the tubing out with your other hand.

Fill the water reservoir with a mix of 10 to 30% pure rubbing alcohol together with distilled water.  No other additives should be used.

Anubis Spray drill: This drill has a removable nosecone that can be autoclaved.  You do have to spray a special lubricant into the handpiece before autoclaving.  Most users only sterilize the burs.

To fill the reservoir use a mixture of 10 to 30% pure rubbing alcohol with distilled water.  No other additives are permitted.

To remove the water tubing from the front connector of the unit, firmly press the center ring in the connector with your thumbnail while pulling the tubing out with your other hand.

Do you need to send your drill for servicing every couple of years?   Not really.  When something does not work right anymore then call us.  For instance: when unlocking the bur becomes much harder then the handpiece needs to be cleaned and new grease installed.  In humid climates I would like the handpiece for cleaning every 3 to 4 years.

All our drills have a target life of 10+ years.  All parts are replaceable and we have a 1 day turn-around on repairs.
